More About Alyssa!

Alyssa grew up in Maryland and has lived in the Pittsburgh area for the last 5 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Anthropology with certificates in Sports Studies and Children’s Literature from the University of Pittsburgh. She is now pursuing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh and is getting close to graduation!

Alyssa has long been interested in working with neurodivergent children and adults. She gained interest in this field in High School, where she assisted special education classrooms for 2 years. She has 2 years of experience working at J&R Day Camp as a camp counselor, and 1 year as an inclusion unit head. As an inclusion unit head she  worked and collaborated directly with the Connection Counseling embedded consultants (April, Anna & Lauren). Through this experience she learned to individualize accommodations for kids, focus on their strengths, and have fun while doing so!

Alyssa currently works with neurodivergent adults, providing individual mindfulness-based therapy, social coaching, and leading groups at the Hiram G Andrews Center as part of her internship requirements for her Master’s program. She has learned the importance of holistic therapy, especially when navigating transitional periods in life.

While pursuing her Bachelor's degree, Alyssa worked as an academic tutor and mentor for the University of Pittsburgh athletics department. She worked with athletes to learn academic and organizational skills to be successful in the classroom. Alyssa is dedicated to collaborating with each client to ensure that they are able to meet their goals no matter the setting. Alyssa also volunteered in a research lab that focused on emotions and experiences and how they impact mood.

Alyssa works to empower her clients and focus on their strengths, goals, and interests. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Pittsburgh, watching sports (especially baseball!), and playing with her cat.
