More About Miriam!

Miriam earned her BA in Sociology from Susquehanna University and an MA in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling through The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Miriam has extensive experience working with children and their families in a variety of settings. Throughout her career, she has gained this experience through the roles of therapeutic staff support (TSS), pre-kindergarten teacher, early childhood education center director, and mental health therapist. Miriam’s position as a TSS was her first experience in working with neurodiverse youth. In this role, she provided individual support in the school, child care, and community environments. In the home setting, Miriam offered guidance to parents with how to best support their child in this environment.

For the last four years, Miriam has worked for PLEA, a school-based partial hospital program for autistic children. She currently serves as a mental health therapist for a classroom treatment team implementing behavior supports and instruction individually and in group settings. Miriam is passionate about working with youth and their families and is excited to continue her work with neurodiverse individuals as a counselor-in-training with Connection Counseling.

Miriam’s work experiences, especially her time at PLEA, have helped her to learn about and appreciate the importance of the therapeutic relationship. She believes in taking the time to build rapport with her clients. Miriam believes that every individual has a unique set of abilities and a different way of interacting with the world around them. She values the diversity of the human brain and does not view neurodivergence as a deficit that needs to be fixed. Miriam strives to create a safe and supportive space for people to work through their issues by meeting them where they are at and embracing their uniqueness and strengths.

In her free time, Miriam enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and traveling. She also loves to spend time outdoors hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, and camping.
