More About Maegan!

Where will you see Maegan?

  • At Kentucky Avenue School & Environmental Charter School providing Community Inclusion Coaching to students

Maegan earned their BA in Sociology from Louisiana Tech University and their Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University as of August 2023. They are currently working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor and are being supervised by Aprilynn (April) Artz, LPC, NCC/Owner of Connection Counseling & Consultation Inc.

Maegan has worked with neurodivergent children and emerging adults in both a therapeutic and caretaking environment. They started out caretaking as a nanny while pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree. This is where they discovered their passion for working with neurodiverse children.

During graduate school, Maegan worked for UPMC Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) on the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study out of UCSD, where they could interact with children and families participating in the study.

They did their practicum and internship at Pitt Career Center and fostered a passion for helping people identify and achieve their career goals and will enjoy incorporating those skills into their work at Connection not only in terms of career, but improving executive function, and routine building as well. Over the summer they worked as a master’s student intern at J & R Day Camp supporting neurodiverse kids in real time. Maegan has loved to see how, with the proper individualized accommodations, these kids thrived.

Maegan has lived in many different parts of the country until they settled in Western PA in 2020 and have fallen in love with it. Maegan’s sociology degree gave them a passion for underserved communities, especially Neurodivergent people. When they first decided to get their Master’s in Counseling Psychology, their goal was to work with autistic people with a non-pathologizing approach, being part of the movement toward affirming unique wiring–not trying to change or fix people to seem neurotypical. Maegan just graduated with their master’s degree and is excited to get started at Connection.

Maegan takes a strength-based and individualized approach and is willing to throw out the rule book and work with you to find strategies that fit your unique strengths and challenges. They recognize that children deserve respect and autonomy as whole human beings and believe that there are no bad kids and that no one chooses/wants to struggle. They do not believe that autism is something that needs to be fixed. Their goal is to help their clients effectively navigate in a neurotypical world.
